Virtual Power Plant – First of Its Kind in Gothenburg Area

Hisland Solutions partnered with a real estate company to develop what could be the first virtual power plant of its kind in the Gothenburg area. This groundbreaking project represents a strategic milestone in Hisland’s movement toward Smart City solutions.

A virtual power plant consists of several interconnected energy resources that can supply or extract power from the electricity system, similar to a physical power plant. The solution can contribute to balancing (frequency regulation) of the electricity grid, which is becoming increasingly important with the growing proportion of renewable energy sources in Sweden’s energy production.

Key Innovation Areas:
  • Integration of IoT solutions for smart lighting, heating/cooling management
  • EV charging station infrastructure
  • New revenue streams from energy resources
  • Real-time grid balancing capabilities

“Considering the winter’s newspaper headlines such as ‘Electricity prices reach a new record today – expensive winter awaits’, the current situation is driving the will to innovate and pushing our customers in Hisland Solutions direction for smarter and more sustainable solutions.”
— Jörgen Björk, CEO, Hisland Solutions

Project initiation was planned for H1-2022, with the potential to create value-creating virtual power plant solutions that enable a larger share of renewable energy in the power system.
